How to Configure Mapbox Styles for Use with Mapme
Mapbox has developed a proprietary map API in recent years that is not directly compatible with MapLibre, the open-source map library used by Mapme. However, you can still use Mapbox styles with Mapme by ensuring they have the correct configurations. This setup usually takes 5 to 10 minutes.
Step 1: Test for Compatibility
To verify if your Mapbox style is compatible with Mapme:
- Add the Map Style: In the Mapme editor, input the style URL and your Mapbox token.
- Check for Loading: If the basemap loads successfully, your style is compatible. If not, proceed to configure the map style in Mapbox Studio.
Step 2: Check the Supported Mapbox Version
- Open Mapbox Studio: Navigate to your map style settings.
- Set Mapbox GL JS Version: Under Supported Mapbox SDK Versions, set the Mapbox GL JS version to 1.6+.
- Review Warnings: If you see any warnings, proceed to the next step to resolve them.

Step 3: Configure the Map Style
Global Settings
- Set Projection:
- Go to Settings > Projections and set the projection to Mercator.
- Disable Atmospheres:
- Ensure the Atmospheres setting is turned off.

Remove Unsupported Expression Values
- Eject Style Components:
- To edit layer conditions, right-click on the component (e.g., POI, Natural Features) and select Eject Style Component.

- Edit Layers:
- Once the layers are ejected, address the warnings by clicking on each layer in the warning list.
- Navigate to Select Data > Filter and delete the unsupported condition.
- Repeat for All Layers:
- Perform the above steps for each layer with a warning.

Step 4: Publish the Map Style
- Publish Changes:
- After completing the configurations, publish the map style.
- Update in Mapme Editor:
- Return to the Mapme editor. The basemap should now load correctly. Note that it might take a few minutes for the Mapbox style to update.
