If NFT was the buzzword of 2022, it appears that 2023 will be dominated by AI-powered search, with chatbots like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Bing Chat at the forefront.
At Mapme, we have been exploring ways to help our customers create maps even more easily. We discovered that it can solve a challenge that many of our customers often face.
Our tests with ChatCPT indicate that you can now generate files containing relevant locations and add the data to your map in just a few minutes.
Here are some use-case examples:
A commercial real estate firm is promoting a new office building and wants to create a map for a neighborhood guide that shows the amenities surrounding the building, such as restaurants, hotels, public transportation, parking, and parks.
A city wants to create a map to promote the downtown neighborhood. The map will include shops, restaurants, historical landmarks, recreational activities, and places of worship.
Simply ask ChatGPT. However, it is still necessary to review and confirm that the data is accurate.
What could be easier than that? In just a few minutes, you can have a map filled with relevant locations.
How to ask AI-powered search for the relevant data for your map?
Here are some tips and tricks on how to ask the search chatbot for data.
Be specific about the locations you want to gather.
We found that it helps to provide a detailed description of your search. For example:
Create a table with locations in close walking distance to the Minneapolis Convention Center.
Include restaurants, bars, hotels and parks.
Specify the data fields you want to gather
List all the fields explicitly. Here is an example:
Include name, address, description, type of locations, latitude, and longitude (value in decimal degree format)
“type of location” corresponds to the Mapme category field.
For the lat and long, we specify the format, so it can be directly imported.
Once you get your answer from the AI-powered search, you can copy & paste the table into a Excel file and import the data or paste the data in Map To Sheets.

How to ask for CSV files
Is it possible for ChatGPT to generate CSV files directly? Yes, you can request ChatGPT to create a CSV file instead of a table. However, if you want to include descriptions, the resulting file may not be usable because descriptions contain commas.
As a workaround, you can specify a custom separator. For example, formulate your question as:
Create a CSV table with a list of all the European Union capitals. Use * as a separator. Include name, latitude, longitude.
You can then save the data as a CSV and import it into Excel or Google Sheets.
We’ll be happy to hear any great stories you have about using AI-powered search to create your maps.
