Interactive School District Map of All Campus Locations

Map Purpose

A school district is a mapping problem that districts almost never solve with a map. Mesquite ISD runs more than fifty campuses across the Dallas suburb of Mesquite, and the standard way to present them is an alphabetical list of school names on a website, sorted into three headings.

This map replaces that list with the thing families are actually picturing when they read it. Where are the schools, which one is near us, and what is at each one. It serves two audiences at once: families moving into the district or choosing between campuses, and the district communications and enrolment teams who field their questions.

What’s on the Map

  • Elementary schools. The district’s elementary campuses, the largest group and the one families search first.
  • Middle schools. Every middle school campus, mapped so families can see the progression from their elementary school.
  • High schools. The district’s high schools, including its academy, vanguard and learning centre programmes alongside the traditional campuses.
  • District facilities. The administration building and district offices, so visitors and staff have a destination for anything that is not a campus.
  • Community facilities. District-run community and family engagement locations, plus the district’s own radio station, KEOM 88.5 FM.

Interactive Features

  • Filter by school level. Categories split the district into elementary, middle and high school, so a family looking for one level is not reading fifty pins.
  • A campus card for every school. Each location carries the school’s details and links, connecting the map back to the individual school pages on the district site.
  • One map, every campus. Instead of a separate map per school, the district maintains a single map and embeds it wherever it is needed.
  • Built for mobile. Most families checking school locations are doing it on a phone, often while looking at houses.
  • Updated in place. When a campus opens, closes or changes, the district edits one map and every embed of it updates.

Brand Experience & Takeaway

For a district, a campus map is a front door. It is one of the first things a family relocating into the area looks for, and one of the few district web pages that gets used by people who are not yet part of the district.

The wider lesson applies to any multi-site education organisation: a district, a charter network, a college system, a group of private schools. The moment an organisation has more than a handful of locations, a list stops answering the question people are actually asking, which is not “what are your schools” but “which of your schools is mine”.
