Storytelling map Vs. Category and filter map

With Mapme, you can easily create maps with different style and layouts in order to match your map use case.

Popular map types are:

  • Categories legend and filters map – the map content is organized with categories
  • Storytelling map – the map content is displayed with a scrolling flow

You can switch from one type to the other at any time but we recommend that when you start creating your map, you have a good sense of which map flow is the best fit for your project.

When you create a new map, by default, the category legend and filter are not displayed on the map home.

In order to display the categories legend and filters:

  • Open the map home
  • Click on “Category Legend and Filters”
  • Enable the display of the “Category Legend and Filters”

Categories and filters maps

With this map style, the categories legend is displayed when the map loads. The legend is based on the categories you created. The legend lets the map viewers filter the content so they can quickly find the most relevant information for them.

The category and filters flow is usually recommended when you have a large number of locations on your map. Here are some examples of common use cases:

  • Project portfolio
  • City guide
  • Projects Impact
  • Neighborhood guide
  • Campus
  • Case studies
  • Real-estate Experience
  • Events

Storytelling maps

With the Storytelling flow, all the locations are displayed with a scrolling flow. The map users scrolls through the locations following the order defined by the map creator.

The storytelling flow is usually recommended when you have a small number of locations on your map (20 and less). Here are some examples of typical use cases:

  • Interactive itinerary
  • Guided tour
  • Distributors
  • Office locations
  • Current listings
  • Open houses
  • Real-estate comparables
