If your map contains many drawings, managing them individually can be time-consuming and prone to error. Use these advanced settings to automate drawing behavior, save time, and ensure consistency. You can find these settings in the editor under Drawings > Advanced Settings.

Auto-Match Drawing Color to Marker
Automatically match a drawing’s color to the marker color of its linked location.
Example:
- You have a drawing for “France” showing the country’s borders.
- You also have a location called “France” with details like text, images, or videos.
- The drawing is set to open the “France” location when clicked.
If the marker for “France” is blue, the drawing will automatically be blue too. Usually, the marker color comes from the location’s category—so changing the category also updates the drawing’s color.
Show Drawings When Category is Selected
Enable this option to automatically display drawings when a user selects a category.
How it works:
- A drawing is set to display when a specific location is selected.
- If that location belongs to a category, the drawing will also display when the category is selected.
Example use case:
You have a color-coded map of countries grouped into categories. Each country has its own drawing and location. Categories are frequently updated via import or Map to Sheets. With this setting, the correct drawings appear automatically when a user selects a category—no manual updates needed.
Show Category Drawings When a Location is Selected
Display category-based drawings when a user selects any location within that category.
By default, drawings linked to a category only show when the category itself is selected—not when a location within it is clicked.
Enable this option to change that behavior:
- Drawings linked to a category will show when:
- The category is selected
- Any location within that category is selected
- Drawings linked to individual locations (not categories) will not appear when selecting the category.
Important: This setting differs from the “Any Location in Category Selected” rule, which shows:
- All category drawings
- Any other drawings linked to locations in that category
Even if those drawings are not explicitly assigned to the category.
